BOOK BLOGGER HOP #2

The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Crazy For Books, and this week's question comes from Jessica at A Great Read...

"WHAT BOOK(S) WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE TURNED INTO A MOVIE?"

Hmm, this is a tough question because I always think the book is better than its film version. And it also depends on the director's interpretation and style. But, to give an answer I think I would like to see the Felix Castor series by Mike Carey, but not as a film as a TV series. Felix Castor is a freelance exorcist, whose best friend is possessed by a demon. Based in London the books are very fast paced, with lots of supernatural action, mystery and suspense. I think the series would work really well on screen.

What book would you like to see on screen?

This was a tough question for me also...most of the time I find Hollywood lacking in their interpretation of most books...which makes sense since their agenda is more focused on the amount of money they can can make rather than staying true to the story :(

I'll have to take a look at the Felix Castor series. For some reason the first thing that came to mind when you mentioned it was the recent adaptation of Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently novel. I tend to think that books work much better when adapted to TV than to film.

I would love to see a modernized Dante's Inferno as a TV series, with each circle of Hell encompassing a feature length episode. My most recent read, Alan Campbell's Sea of Ghosts, would be awesome if adapted to film or TV. It's got a cross between steampunk and the 50's industrial style of Bioshock, mixed with a healthy dose of sorcery. It's a very gritty story that would do well on screen.

ohhh never heard of that series, sounds fun.
I agree it's all about the director for me when they adapt. And ultimately the book is always better, except for Everything is Illuminated which was a lovely movie and a god awful book.

Very true Peppermint - apparently there's a set way of writing a movie script, so it makes them all feel the same but is probably a guaranteed way of telling a story and bringing in money.

Jamie, I'll have to look the Dirk Gently novel. I've always wanted to read Dante's Inferno, but I'm not sure I could actually read it.

Rhiannon, I haven't heard of Everything is Illuminated, but I'll look it up - the film that is, and not the book ;)

Yeah, I agree that it's a tough call - a lot depends on the screenwriter and the director. Not all adaptations are as good as HP and LOTR.

Here's my Book Blogger Hop post!

Hopping over from BooksYourKidsWillLove.

I haven't read that book. I'm looking forward to a lot of the YA books that have been optioned lately.
