Do you judge a book by its cover?
Absolutely yes! Aesthetics are important...it's like food. Food should look good as well as taste good. Who doesn't fall in love with a gorgeously decadent french pastry while its still sat in the shop window?! Whilst a beautiful cover won't guarantee a good read (we all know the saying), it can certainly help you decide which book to read next. In most cases you will pick up the general feel of the book through the cover. You know if it's going to be a feel good summery book, or a dark thriller. If I'm in the mood for something that will give me a bit of a scare, I'm not going to pick up something all pink and flowery. A good cover draws you in, makes you want to find out more. Its the start of pulling you in. The start of the journey. It can be the start of a beautiful piece of work.

We seem to have similar tastes, I adore the the covers for Fallen (and Torment) and Matched, they're just gorgeous. I'm your newest follower and I look forward to reading more reviews!

What a great post! I love book covers. It's the first thing that attracts me to a book. I do love the Fallen cover. Right now, I'm reading a lot middle grade and have been drawn to the covers on the Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott. I'm currently staring at the Magyk cover (book one of Septimus Heap). I love that one as well! I happened over here through Jen at Unedited. Glad that I did! Lovely blog you have here!

I agree that the cover can really catch your eye and give you an indication of what to expect...
I tend to judge a book by its spine rather than its cover. If I'm a library or a bookshop, the typography and design of a book's spine will get me interested initially. The cover is secondary, but I do always judge from that (who doesn't?).
Most of my favourite covers are purely symbolic e.g. Ian Irvine's Well of Echoes series, some editions of Lord of the Rings, some print versions of the Wheel of Time. I love the ambiguity with symbols that can change depending on the perspective of the viewer.
Other than that, my favourite covers are the Sword of Truth (Terry Goodkind) books that were designed by the late Keith Parkinson. his fantasy-scapes are breathtaking.
I judge a book by everything, cover included. The writing is what matters most, however.
A weekly blog hop - excellent. I just have to streamline my schedule a bit, but I think I'll come back to track this down in a week or two. Am liking your blog - and I agree with you on book covers, unless I've already read the author. Then the cover doesn't matter because I'd be going on author loyalty (yeah, I'm one of those) ;)
